Pueblo musican Morgan Cox to release new album on Oct. 5

Pueblo musician Morgan J. Cox is celebrating the release of his album, “Musica Vessel,” in a big way.

On Oct. 5, “Musica Vessel” will be digitally released on all major platforms including Spotify. The night of Friday, Nov. 4, Cox will host a vinyl launch party with a live performance at Analogue By Solar Roast Coffee, 216 N. Main St. Copies of “Musica Vessel” will be available for purchase at Analogue following the launch party.

With songs written by Cox and music produced by Phyllis Music, Cox said he wanted the album to push himself outside of his comfort zone of R&B. As a result, “Musica Vessel” includes rock, hip hop, pop, blues and Jazz stylings.

The album’s closing track, “Reminiscing” is written in memory of Cox’s late younger brother Earnest, who was lost to gun violence this July at the age of 22. “Beat the Odds,” the album’s third track, is dedicated to Cox’s therapist who survived a battle with ovarian cancer.

“It’s really an emotional project,” Cox said. “I wanted it to be different than most of what you hear on the radio these days… I wanted it to be authentic and therapeutic.”

In addition to collaborating with Phyllis Music, several Pueblo artists played a role in the making of “Musica Vessel.”

Mathias Valdez of LastLeaf Printing and Design, 425 W. 5th St, designed the album art. Videographer Jerod Young produced the music video for the song “BADA BING BADA BOOM,” which will premiere on YouTube on Oct. 5 at midnight. Tyler Shown of Jolly Mule Productions produced the music video for “Sex and Pain,” the eighth track on the album.

Originally from Denver, Cox has been in Pueblo for eight years. After spending two years in the Denver City Jail and time in the Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo, he rediscovered his love for performing at open mic events in Pueblo. He maintains that Pueblo gave him support and a foundation that he didn’t have in Denver.

“I want to put Pueblo on the map… Dare to dream because you never know what can happen with the right foundation,” Cox said. “I feel like Pueblo has given me the right foundation to follow my dreams and it’s never too late.”
