Calling Local Artists

Local artists looking to share their handmade pieces are in luck; as long as the art can fit in a vending machine.

The Fire Playce Paint Your Own Pottery Studio, located at 517 W. 5th Street #108, is hosting the Art Drop, a snack vending machine converted into a place to buy locally made jewelry, soaps, fiber arts, small canvas pieces, ceramics, wooden art, dishtowels, tank tops, flags, and more.

“I just really want to get a broad selection,” said Lara Craddock, owner of the Fire Playce. “Almost all of the proceeds will go directly to the artist. As the host, we are keeping just a little bit for advertising and I am supplying the bags that they go into, into the machine.”

Items submitted to the art drop must be quality handmade, original artwork and able to fit in 5 x 8 x 1.5-inch or 2 x 5 x 1-inch bags; about the size of a small bag of chips. Artists are asked to bring ten items to fill their slot in the machine. Pricing of art ranges between $5 and $10. The machine accepts cash payment only.

“We are asking for quality because it will be representing every artist in the machine and we are trying to keep it very family friendly,” Craddock said. “We don’t want any R-rated art. It’s not that many requirements as to what they can’t submit, as long as it will fit into those sized bags.”

The Art Drop can be liked on Facebook at “The Art Drop Pueblo” and followed on Instagram at “theartdroppueblo.” Special posts will be made for every new artist contributing to the Art Drop to get followers acquainted with the work they do. Artists can submit their work either by messaging the Art Drop’s Facebook page or sending an email to thefireplayce@gmail.com.

“I am really encouraging the artists to put as much information so these people can follow them and like them; and maybe buy more from them,” Craddock said.
